Embedded media

Hi,

Can the forum maintainers add (XenForo LTD.) add the option to embed media files (flv,mp4,mov,avi,gif etc..) from any website ?
Instead of a link to a website I can give a direct link to the streaming media itself.
This example https://********.co/embed/rAiTxE0VmPQ/OldGoesYoung.18.08.29.Kecy.Hill.1080p.mp4 which is taken from https://fucktat.com/old-goes-young-kecy-hill shows the benefits - on the post (no extra tab needed) ,no ads, with thumbnail previews, of embedded media.

Hi, ... TNX
While I don't know if this can be done with outside sites, I do know that several members in the European YouTube Dance thread expressed their displeasure with the use of MEDIA /MEDIA, which was the default of the s/w.

Mainly because the preview image provided wasn't the girl that they had linked to.

Also, in the case of a lot of links posted, requires a lot of scrolling. And, many members don't like that.

And, while not addressing this specifically, the thread here https://www.titsintops.com/phpBB2/index.php?threads/hot-link-posting-members-please-vote.108354/ indicates that most members like the full link.

Links and Embedded media are two different things. I also prefer full link if possible (BTW only 7 members voted, I'm the 8th :)).
Media files are media files whether they come from Youtube, Twitter, Instagram or other "well-known" sites or they come from any other website that suggests embedding it's contents. video/gif files should have the option to be embedded not matter what is the source. that is MHO.

You can can open a vote thread for that and see what the community has to say about embedded media or links with all pros and cons (I don't see any cons in EM). Just make sure it will reach the majority of the community. Maybe you can make a polls sub-forum or jump them it whenever a user comes come back so he'll have to answer or skip it.

Yes, I know that Links and Embedded Media are two different things. But, as I mentioned, several members, including myself and at least 1 other Staff member, didn't like EM because either the preview wasn't what the poster wanted to be shown. Or, if you posted 11+ links, only 10 would show up as EM. And, if there were different points in the same link, the EM showed the same preview regardless.

Now, while this post https://www.titsintops.com/phpBB2/i...n-european-weddings-youtube.90894/post-542394 isn't EM, you can see why several members have complained about having to scroll through (just like having too many full size images in one post). Now, imagine if those showed the same preview. Would that be something you'd want to see?

And, because 2 or 3 regular contributing members and at least 2 Staff decided against EM, it was removed as the default. However if you, or any member wish to show EM, it will still work by using the "" (xxx=name of link; and no quotation marks) html.

It doesn't work even on a well know cloud drive like Google Drive both as an embedded HTML and as a hyperlink
HTML:
<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15BzJ85D0fA-B9dV-ox0DorZ_0KOh2gEa/preview" width="640" height="480"></iframe>

It looks like it only supports media from the following set of whitelisted sources, and it supports a particular embed-code from the URL rather than the whole URL (okay, it looks like Tumblr uses nearly the whole URL at least):

I just decided to show examples of a few types of embedded media; you can go to the drop-down menu just right of the smiley face icon to find Media.

Thanks @eattre I already knew that.
It is also explained here.
The question is why this list is limited to these sites only? Is it a technical or a legal issue?

Technical Issues, or a Legal issue? Sorry, but I have no idea.

If it's so important to you, I can bring it to admins' attention, but it'll take time to hear back. And, it won't change the default setting that got rid it from being automatically added.

I'm thinking that it's technical: There's no general method for figuring out how to embed a particular piece of media, and instead you need to set up a template for each service, and AFAIK the currently supported ones come with XenForo by default.
